So You Want to be a WGU Student

This course is the Operating System, Software troubleshooting, Command/Terminal Interaction, Professional Standards, and Malware portion of the A+ certification.

First step in this course is looking over the objectives

Studying for this course greatly depends on the following:

  1. Experience
  2. Work History
  3. How Well you perform on exams
  4. What kind of study learner you are

WARNING: Do not take the objectives at complete face value. It is easy to look at the objectives and assume, based on being around Operating systems and using the interface, that it will be easy to remember how to find things.

During the exam, you don’t have a computer in front of you to remind your muscle memory how to get to places. This means that you will need to see the words and automatically trigger them so that if I go to “insert place in Control Panel” or “insert place in settings,” it will take me to the following options. Then you must think, “Well, where do those options lead?”.

Furthermore, take every part of the study as if you are working in a tier 1 tech support. See yourself going through the ticketing system and understanding the roles other areas, like Change Management, will have based on your step. Many instructors will demonstrate over and over the need to remember malware removal. Still, few will remind you that you are not in a vacuum and proper company procedures, policies, and changes must be understood and processed.

I will not divide the study guide based on what I did; instead, it will be based on experience and study style. There are many resources out there, and it can be very overwhelming to study for an A+. There is also mixed information that can be highly conflicting.
