So You Want to be a WGU Student

As of July 2025 ITIL has their resources under “ITIL Course Resource Hub” under the Course Tips Screen. This includes sections 1-4 and pdfs to download.

Introduction: This course is a certification. It contains no practice tests from WGU itself. Most of the materials from this class are obtained from outside sources.

• All live cohorts are exam preparation only. Recorded cohorts are available but do not select Service Value Chain videos, they are attempting for you to understand what is input and what is output into each part of the chain but they constantly trip over themselves and it is extremely confusing.
• All cohort videos by Erik Anderson are solid.
• The textbook is about 200 pgs. I read through most of the material and used it for my study guide so it is not necessary to do as I did unless there are topics that are particularly hard to understand.
• You can request tips from your instructor or select the instructor pool. My instructor was unhelpful, and I did this work on my own.
• check out Katrinars. This is referenced on multiple discords and has some useful information. Keep in mind that for ITILv4 there is no software to download anymore, so this is only up to date as of 1/1/24

• [ ] There are many resources on Discord, Reddit, and WGU. These can be overwhelming, especially since some must study or have resources to get this certification. I am providing the list of resources that worked for me in a specific order:

1. Step 1: Visual Insights Playlist

• This resource will give you a complete overview and has excellent details on each practice, its purpose, and some key definitions. The material is quick to watch, and I recommend watching it multiple times. However, it does not provide application information for the leading practices and how the value chain interacts.

1. Cohort Video #3 - I have not found where the pre-recorded Cohort videos are as of July 2025. The panopto video links no longer work. If you do find any cohorts that are live with Erik, please check them out

Erik Anderson does well with instructor videos. Avoid any that are not from him. Especially input/output

This is beneficial for one significant reason: it reviews previous topics and connects the value chain steps to each practice. This is NOT something supplied by any other resource.
